About the workshop
The limitations of conventional technologies in terms of speed, capacity
and accuracy has elevated the importance of photonics to that of the
key-enabling technology for the future, catering to the major challenges
in the modern world - developing economical green energy, high speed
communication networks, managing healthcare costs and quality, ensuring
security in cyberspace, and much more. Modern optics and photonics
exploit light not only to perform passive observations but also to interactively
control the phenomena. The capacity to mould the properties of light is a
vital ingredient that enables us to control light's interaction with matter.
Recent advances in photonics cover wide range of sub-domains ranging from laser
physics and engineering, integrated optics, optical storage, optical
communication, optical information process. THz waves, semiconductor lasers,
ultrafast optics, quantum optics, silicon photonics, MEMS, nano sensors,
biophotonics etc. This workshop on Photonics is meant to enhance the
understanding of researchers and faculty members in this area apart from
fostering and strengthening collaborations amongst different research groups.
Eminent researchers from the Institute of Photonic Technologies, National
Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan and premier institutes in India will be
delivering invited talks covering the different topics.
