Chemical engineering is one of the popular branches of engineering which deals with the production of chemicals, bio chemicals, nanomaterials, fuel cell and etc. Chemical engineering course mainly involves design of chemical manufacturing equipments like reactors, distillation, absorption and extraction columns using computer softwares. In addition, safety and environmental pollution control also are being dealt. The chemical engineering graduates have got good opportunity in chemical industries, research organization, food and bio chemicals and other related industries like paints, polymers, pharmaceuticals and etc.  
 

The department of chemical engineering course here was started in the academic year of 2004-2005 with a sanctioned student intake of 30 and affiliated to Anna University. The total number of faculty members in the department is eight, and having the faculty to student ratio of 1:11. The faculties are qualified from institutions of repute and three of them with Ph.D. qualification. The research areas of the faculty are i) Natural product extraction ii) Sol-Gel synthesis iii) Energy Management iv) Nano-technology v) Hydrotropy and vi) Biosorption.  One of the faculty has authored a book titled “An Insight into Chemical Engineering” which is useful for GATE students. Many faculties have published more than thirty six research papers in peer reviewed international journals.

The department has about 5400 sqm of carpet area, with individual office rooms for every faculty, spacious class rooms with Wi-Fi connections, and laboratories. Laboratories are equipped with the required experimental facilities as stipulated by the affiliating university. Modern analytical instruments and chemical engineering softwares (ANSYS, Chem CAD) available for carrying out research programme. Already three Ph.D. guides are available in the department.  Central library is having about 1000 books on various chemical engineering titles and getting 13 national and international journals, and has access to many e-journals of sciencedirect and springerlink. In addition to this, the department library is having about 300 books.

Our students are securing 100% result in university examinations with good university ranks. Industrial visits and tours are arranged once in a year to help the students. Students are encouraged to undergo inplant training. Personality development training programmes are conducted in third and final year of study so as to equip the students for placement. Guidance is given for competitive exams such as GATE, GRE, etc. The chemical engineering graduates of this institute have got the best placements in the core sector and in softwares
