The Management of SSN Institutions has taken a conscious decision to initiate
active research in SSN Institutions. A RESEARCH ADVISORY COUNCIL
has been constituted to guide SSN Institutions on research
activities in the campus. Focus areas are "current, new and emerging" areas to meet
the "Future Needs" of the nation. The vision of our Chairman Dr.Shiv Nadar is that the research programmes of SSN
Institutions should motivate the students and the faculty to
rise to the level of Nobel Laureates. The Research Advisory
Council is chaired by Dr. Shiv Nadar. Padma
Bhusan Dr.Raj Reddy, Dr.V.S.Arunachalam,
Dr.R.Natarajan and Dr.N.Balakrishnan all noted scientists.
SSN Institutions has highly qualified faculty members and many of
them are active in research. They are
constantly encouraged by the Management to initiate research and
internal funding is made available. The
faculty members are also encouraged to submit their proposals
and get funding from outside agencies.
The departments of ECE,
EEE, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry have been recognised as
research centres by Anna University to do Ph.D. The Management
has sanctioned TWENTY Junior Research Fellowships (Rs.10000/-
per month) and FIVE Senior Fellowships (Rs15,000/- per month) to
encourage research activities. Some of the research facilities
are extended to the research scholars of other institutions
also. International and National level conferences are
periodically organized to bring together active researchers for
deliberation and exchange of ideas.
SSN Institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding with
National Tsing Hua university, Taiwan for the exchange of
academic staff, exchange of students for higher studies, exchange
of academic course materials and research collaborations. A
collaborative project on "Growth and Characterisation of
Crystalline Materials" is undertaken jointly by Center for
Crystal Growth, SSNCE and National Physical Laboratory, New
Delhi. "The World's Longest Crystal" project supported by SSN
Institutions has been initiated and the crystal is showing signs
of successful growth features. SSN Institutions has also signed
MOUs with Infosys Technologies Ltd., HCL Infosystems Ltd., HCL
Technologies Limited and IBM for carrying out research projects.
Due to the strong support by the management for research in our
institution, the number of research papers from faculty
members has shown a remarkable increase over the years. Work is
in progress for patenting some of the discoveries made in SSN.
